So… this is something that divides the Holland household and I am sure we’re not alone. The fact that Brits love their tea is a known fact worldwide so perhaps it’s no surprise then that the perfect ‘cuppa’ is a bit of a contentious issue.

It appears the following questions divide the nation (and families!):

Do you use a mug or a proper tea cup and saucer?
A tea bag or loose tea?
Do you add the milk before or after the hot water?
Boiling water or slightly cooler?
How long do you leave the tea bag in?
Cold milk or warm milk? How much?
Do you take the tea bag out before you add the milk or after?
And at what point do you add it?
How often do you stir the cup before it’s the perfect cuppa?

My perfect cuppa starts with a big mug, ideally one of my favourite Cath Kidston ones! Then, add the tea bag, boiling hot water, good stir, take the tea bag out, add the milk and the sugar – et voila! The perfect cuppa. My husband follows the same sequence but he prefers his tea a lot stronger and with less milk. I think I’ve just about managed to make him a half decent cuppa after years of living together!

For particularly difficult visitors (or indeed colleagues) why not get a tea mug with a colour palette? Available at House of Fraser for £7.50.
