Nano Quadcopter Cheerson CX-10A

First impressions when opening the box…

It is tiny! However, it is surprisingly well built. Inside the box you get the quadcopter, a transmitter, a USB charging cable and some spare props (which you will need unless you are a pro!) Whilst on this note I would highly recommend buying a prop guard and spare props. Available on eBay and Amazon.

First flight…

The quadcopter has 4 LEDs, one on each corner: two blue, two red. In flight these are illuminated. The two blue LEDs indicate the front and the two red LEDs indicate the back to enable easy navigation.

Charging takes around 15-20 minutes which is surprisingly quick as many reviews state 30 minutes. The quadcopter has three flying modes which you can select by pushing down the throttle stick until it clicks:

  1. Standard – this is the default setting. The quadcopter is super stable and flies around in a docile manner. This is great for learning how to hover and doing basic manoeuvres indoors.
  2. Advanced – press the left stick once, it’ll beep twice to indicate this mode has been selected. The quadcopter is now super responsive, allowing it to move at a faster pace and more precisely. Ideal for flying outdoors and in light windy conditions as it cuts through the air more easily.
  3. Headless – press the left stick twice, it’ll beep three times to indicate this mode has been selected. Flashing LED lights will give an additional visual indication. The headless mode will allow the quadcopter to face any direction but forwards and backwards will always move the quadcopter forwards and backwards relative to your position. This is perfect for beginners getting used to the basic movements.

Overall flight time from a full charge is approximately 5 minutes. The quadcopter indicates low battery by flashing all of its LED lights which gives you approximately 20 seconds to get back to the ground safely. Otherwise it’s ‘bye, bye quadcopter’!

We’ve tested the range of the quadcopter and it reaches about 100 feet. Beyond that the signal breaks and the quadcopter falls uncontrollably. To be honest, you wouldn’t really want to go much further because it’d be out of your line of vision.

It’s super nimble and really fast when you fly it in Advanced mode. When you start to get the hang of it, you can also do some flips in mid air by pressing the right stick until it beeps once and moving the same stick in any direction.

Conclusions

For approximately £15 including delivery this is an excellent entry-level quadcopter that will give you hours of fun with reasonably quick charge times.

Pros

  • Great entry-level quadcopter
  • Good functionality compared to higher priced models
  • Quick charging time
  • Solid built (smashed it a few times and it’s still flying)
  • Price – available from Amazon

Cons

  • You can’t remove the battery but with a charge time of about 15 minutes it’s not really a problem
  • Doesn’t come with a prop guard
